PIQUA — Russell D. Michael, 81, of Piqua, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016.

He was born in The Plains, Ohio, on Aug. 19, 1934, to Russell and Lillian Michael.

He is survived by three children, Cathy (Scott) Erwin of Piqua, James “Bo” (Bonnie) Michael of Piqua and Rick Michael of St. Marys; brothers, John Michael of Athens and Samuel Michael of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren, Dustin Erwin, Bradley (Abby) Erwin, Darrin (Liana) Michael, Jacob (Elizbeth) Michael, Haley Michael, Elizabeth (Matthew) Schaade and Kristi Manning; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son at birth.

He was a graduate of Piqua City Schools.

He served in the Marines during the Korean War.

He was a self-employed contractor for 60 years, working up to the last year of his life. Throughout the years, he had many loyal, hardworking employees, with a few who continued to help with his care after he became ill.

He loved his family deeply and appreciated his many friendships.

He donated his body to Wright State University.

The family will have private services.
