MIAMI COUNTY — As Miami County’s Board of Developmental Disabilities, Riverside has partnered with Darke and Preble County Boards of DD to offer a School-to-Adult Life Transition (S.A.L.T.) Series. S.A.L.T. is a free monthly series that provides valuable information, resources and guidance to families of students ages 14-22 with developmental disabilities, helping them navigate the transition from school to adult life.
At S.A.L.T., students are also encouraged to attend their own session called SEA SALT (Students Exploring Adulthood), which takes place at the same time as the parents’ series. Students will participate in activities to help them prepare for their transitions.
The next S.A.L.T. session will focus on employment in the community. It will be held Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Riverside, 1625 Troy Sidney Road, Troy. Light refreshments will also be provided.
Parents at the October session will hear guest speaker, presenters Ann Lewis and Rachael Spangler, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) explore the how and when students should begin the path to employment.
Students at October SEA SALT session will hear from Leigh Anne Wenning, human resources director at Riverside, who will lead a fun and interactive discussion on successful job interviews. Students will also participate in interactive activities, meet other students and learn social skills while having fun.
