Walmart armed robbery reported in Piqua

Piqua police with assistance from Ohio Highway Patrol Troopers, Miami Co. Deputies and a K-9 unit from Tipp City are searching for a suspect who allegedly did an armed robbery and attempted to steal a woman’s car in the Piqua Walmart parking lot shortly before 3 pm.

Deputy Chief Marty Grove of the Piqua Police Department said that the man approached a 67 year old female in the parking lot, displayed a black handgun and told her that she “Is going to be taking him away from here.”

The woman refused and began to struggle with man. This attracted the attention of bystanders who came to help.

The man fled east and was last seen on foot running along U.S. Route 36 at Willowbrook.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’10” and skinny. He has close-cropped brownish hair and a large tattoo on his right arm. He was wearing a black shirt with white letters on the back and black long shorts.

An Ohio Highway Patrol helicopter is on the scene using Forward Looking Infared Radar to assist in the search.
