TIPP CITY — The Tippecanoe High School Theatre Program is bringing the upside-down fairytale “Shrek the Musical” to the Tippecanoe Center for Performing Arts on Thursday-Sunday.

Based on the smash hit animated film, “Shrek the Musical” follows the story of one very grumpy ogre, Shrek (played by senior Braden Stafford), who lives alone in a swamp. When the insecure and conniving Lord Farquaad (Alec Group, sophomore) expels all of the fairy tale characters from his kingdom, Shrek is forced into an epic adventure that will see him joined by an over-enthusiastic talking Donkey (Jack Armentrout, senior) and a not-so-by-the-book Princess Fiona (Lauren Beagle, senior) with a secret or two up her sleeve.

Perfect for children and families, “Shrek the Musical” marries the bawdy humor of the original film with spectacular musical numbers added for the Broadway production.

The Tippecanoe production features a cast of more than 50 students, bringing to life dozens of fairytale characters, a giant dragon, fun and catchy songs, and numerous special effects that will entertain all members of the family. The cast also includes veteran seniors Kayla Bruns, Lauren Cross, Claire Heatherly, Savanah Kennedy, Tori Livesay, Alonna Lumpkin, Angelo Mihalyo, Nikita Parks, Kelly Rhoades, Olivia Shirley, Alexa Spiller, Wade Timmer, Maya Vyas, Faith Walker and Autumn Weldon.

Performances will be held on Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and a matinee will be performed on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Tippecanoe Center for Performing Arts. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students in grades 12 or below.

Senior citizens are invited to the Thursday performance on March 16 for free. All seating is reserved.
