CENTERVILLE — Local players will fill the North roster — and local coaches will dot the sideline — in the annual Miami Valley Football Coaches Association All-Star game, while will kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday at Centerville High School.
Three Piqua players will be wearing their Indians helmets one final time as offensive lineman Anthony Grunkemeyer, running back Allen Schrubb and defensive back Dylan Cole all will be playing in the contest.
Covington has five players on the North roster, including: quarterback Nathan Blei, running back/linebacker Lance Miller, wide receiver/defensive back Branden Robinson, defensive end Adam Lefeld and linebacker Deron White.
Representing Lehman will be running back Dylan Arnold.
Miami East will have a pair of players for the North, offensive/defensive lineman Gunner Gearhart and running back/wide receiver Aaron Adams.
The two Troy Christian players participating in the game will be offensive/defensive lineman Seth Douglas and wide receiver Jacob Brown.
The North will be coached by Covington head coach Tyler Cates. Lehman’s James Harless will serve as one of the assistant coaches.
In addition to the all-star game itself, a number of other activities will take place Friday night, including: the MVFCA Head Coaches Hall of Fame inductions, the MVFCA Assistant Coaches Hall of Fame inductions, the awarding of senior scholarships, the Coach John Derr Impact Award and the Rick Newsock Leadership Award.
Three former coaches with local ties already have been inducted into the MVFCA Hall of Fame: Versailles’ Al Hetrick (Class of 2012), Piqua’s George Wertz (Class of 2014) and Lehman/Piqua coach Chuck Asher (Class of 2014).
The North beat the South 31-28 in last year’s game.
