TROY — Troy Christian’s ninth straight win came in dramatic fashion.

Lexi Salazar scored a pair of goals, including the game-winning goal in overtime, propelling the sixth-seeded Eagles girls soccer team to a 2-1 victory over No. 12 Twin Valley South Thursday in the Division III sectional tournament’s second round.

Lauren Rutkowski assisted on Salazar’s first goal as the two teams ended regulation tied 1-1. Then Salazar took a feed from Kirsten Strait and drove it in to give the Eagles (13-2-2) the sudden victory.

Troy Christian will take on No. 4 Dayton Christian in the district semifinal round Monday at Eaton High School. The Eagles and Warriors shared the Metro Buckeye Conference championship in the regular season, with the two teams tying 2-2 back on Sept. 12.

BRANDT — Bethel’s Darani Wenrick scored the game-winning goal with roughly 20 minutes to play and the ninth-seeded Bees held on for a 3-2 victory over No. 14 Newton in the second round of the Division III sectional tournament Thursday at home.

Jaden Stine then scored on a rebound after a shot by Deeter was blocked to tie the score again, but Wenrick gave Bethel a 3-2 lead and the Bees shut the Indians down from there.
