FAIRBORN — For the second time in Miami Valley League crossover play, the Tippecanoe girls soccer team narrowly held on for a 1-0 victory, this time at Fairborn Wednesday night to maintain its Miami Division lead.
In the third game of the season on Aug. 21, the Red Devils also held off Stebbins with a 1-0 score. The win, the Devils’ seventh in their last eight games, improved the team to 8-2-2 overall and 6-0 in the MVL Miami standings.
Tippecanoe hosts division rival Troy Oct. 2 in a critical showdown.
PIQUA — Piqua (2-9-2, 1-5 Miami Valley League Miami Division) dropped a MVL match to Stebbins Wednesday.
Grace Forness scored Piqua’s goal on an assist from Audrey Evans.
Karley Johns had 16 saves in goal.
Piqua hosts Greenville Oct. 2.

SIDNEY — The Piqua boys golf team lost a close match to Sidney at Shelby Oaks West Wednesday.
Mason Price continued a strong week and was match medalist with 39.
Other Piqua scores were Kyler Kommer 43, Evan Hensler 49, Decker Jackson 51, Cameron Foster 54 and Drew Hinkle 62.
Piqua (5-11, 4-5 MVL Miami Division) will play in the MVL tournament Saturday at Beavercreek Golf Club.

VANDALIA — The Troy girls golf team fell to 3-9 on the season and 3-4 in Miami Valley League Miami Division play Wednesday, dropping a 188-198 match to division rival Butler at Cassel Hills.
Paige Stuchell shot 47 to lead the Trojans, Libby Harnish followed with a 48, Delaney Davis shot 50, Megan Coate shot 53, Mareesa Uhlenbrock shot 56 and MariCait Gillespie shot 57.
Troy will compete in the MVL Tournament Saturday at Beechwood and then finish the regular season with one final dual at Northmont Monday.
SIDNEY — The Lehman Catholic girls tennis team edged Urbana Wednesday.
“With the win tonight we have won more matches than last year,” Lehman coach Tim Ungericht said. “Great accomplishment for our team considering we only had one returning varsity player coming into this season with 10 of our 15 kids having never played before this year.
“I did cry talking to my wife and our assistant coach about it after the match. I can remember talking with our assistant worried that we wouldn’t even have enough for a full varsity team and we end up with 15 kids and more wins than last year. Amazing.”
In singles, Angela Brunner won 6-1, 6-4; Ann Deafenbaugh lost 2-6, 6-3, 1-0(10-7); and Mary Lins lost 6-4, 6-1..
In doubles, Liann Trahey and Taylor Reineke won 6-4, 6-2; and Macie Verdier and Madi Gleason won 6-3, 6-4.
WEST MILTON — Milton-Union closed out the regular season with a victory Wednesday at home, defeating Northmont 4-1 to finish with a 12-5 overall record.
At first singles, Meredith Fitch won 6-0, 6-0. At second singles, Taylor Falb won 6-0, 6-0. At third singles, Laura Billing won 6-0, 6-0. At first doubles, Madison Silveira and Amelia Black won 7-5, 7-6 (3).
At second doubles, Emma Lehman and Paige Barnes lost.
Milton-Union will compete in the Division II sectional tournament Tuesday at Troy High School and Troy Community Park.
