SIDNEY — The Piqua girls basketbal team ran into a buzzsaw in unbeaten Sidney Wednesday night, losing 52-18 in GWOC North action.
Sidney jumped out to an 11-0 first quarter lead and was in front 24-4 at halftime, despite Piqua baskets by Carly Brown and Mikayla Schaffner.
Piqua trailed 38-6 after three quarters, before Sidney outscored the Lady Indians 14-12 in the final quarter.
Schaffner added seven more points in the second half to finish with nine.
Brown had three steals and three rebounds, while Schaffner also grabbed three rebounds.
Lauren Williams had two steals and two assists and Kelsey Magoteaux also dished out two assists.
Sylvia Hudson had 23 points and seven rebounds for Sidney, making 11 of 17 shots from the floor.
Kaitlyn Davis scored 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting — and dished out five assists and had three steals, while Celena Taborn was 6-for-9 from the floor in scoring 12 points and pulling down six rebounds.
Carrie Nuss had three steals, while Ashey Egan added three assists.
Piqua was 8-for-29 from the floor for 28 percent, including 2-for-5 from behind the arc for 40 percent. The Lady Indians missed both their free throw attempts.
Sidney was 23 of 50 from the floor for 50 percent — including two of 12 from 3-point range for 17 percent. The Lady Jackets converted four of six free throws for 67 percent.
Sidney won the battle of the boards 27-11 and had nine turnovers to Piqua’s 17.
Sidney improved to 12-0 overall and 2-0 in the GWOC North.
Piqua, 2-11 overall and 0-2 in the GWOC North, will host Greenville Saturday.
