Covington wrestling off to impressive start

Covington started their season in impressive fashion at the 8-team Northeastern Invitational, winning their first three duals on the night.

The Buccs opened with Hillsboro and downed their team, 60-15. In round two, Covington won a 57-18 dual against Southeastern, before finishing with a lopsided 72-3 victory over Riverside.

Going 3-0 for the Buccs were Coleman Ryan (120, pin), Jared Ford (132, 2 pins), Josh Sowers (145), Gage DeHart (152, pin), Deron White (160, 2 pins), Lance Miller (170, 2 pins), Joey Schmelzer (182, pin) and Brandon Magee (195, pin). Seth Thomas (285, 2 pins) finished 2-0.

Finishing 2-1 were Connor Ryan (113, pin) and Carl Lankford (285, pin), while Chris Triplett (120), Riley Richards (126), Parker Dysinger (138), Keringten Martin (138, pin) and Bryce Keiser (220) also won matches for Covington.

Wrestling resumes at 10 am on Saturday.
