SPRINGFIELD — The Covington wrestling team finished off winning the Northeastern Invitational Saturday, completing the tournament with an 8-0 record.

After going 3-0 on Friday, Covington defeated Urbana 69-15, Beavercreek B 72-6, Kenton Ridge 69-12, Hillsboro 72-9 and Northeastern 71-12.

On Friday, Covington defeated Springfield Shawnee 66-15, Northwestern 75-6 and Waynesville 78-6.

The Buccs had seven individual champions at the tournament who finished with 8-0 records.

They included Devin Newhouse (106), Kellan Anderson (113, pin), Cael Vanderhorst (120, 5 pins), Riley Richards (126, 6 pins), Austin Flick (145, 3 pins), Keringten Martin (152, 6 pins) and Gage Kerrigan (195, 4 pins).

Taking second for the team were Caleb Miller (126, 6-2, 5 pins), Dylan Burns (160, 7-1, 4 pins) and Gavin McReynolds (182, 7-1, 6 pins).

Duncan Cooper (170, 3 pins) and Jesse Fisher (220, 3 pins) both took third.

Connor Sindelir (126, 6-2, 4 pins), Dylan Staudt (220, 5-3, 4 pins) and Clayton Stephan (285, 4-4, pin) also had strong performances for Covington.

Also winning matches for the Buccs were David Robinson (145, pin), Fletcher Metz (145), Gavin Swank (145, pin), Bryce Smith (152, pin), Tyler Bauer (160, pin), Jensen Wagoner (160, 2 pins), Seth Iddings (170, 2 pins) and Ricky Stephan (182, 3 pins).

Covington travels to Versailles on Tuesday, December 4, for a combined high school and jr. high dual against the Tigers at 6 pm.

SIDNEY — The Versailles wrestling team opened the season by winning the Jim McCracken Invitational at Sidney.

Versailles had 242.5 points, while Tecumseh was second with 204.5.

Winning for Versailles were Jacob Poling (126), Trevor Huber (132), Tyler Gigandet (170) and Isaac Grilliot (195),

Poling pinned Riley Slade of Greenville in 1:50 in the title match, while Huber pinned Keith Evans of Tecumseh in 3:41.

Gigandet recorded a 3-0 decision over Trent Benson of Kings in the the title match, while Isaac Grilliot pinned Conner Bradley of Fairborn in 2:49.

Finishing second were Kobe Epperly (120),

Taking third were Carson Bey (132), Cael Bey (145), Derek Cavin (182) and Austin Nerderman (285).

Finishing fourth was Kaleb Keiser (120), while taking fifth was Nick Monnier (138).

Finishing sixth were Mike Reed (106), Noah Barga (138) and Alex Kaiser (160).
