KETTERING — The Lehman Catholic girls soccer team played one of the most difficult D-III soccer schedules for a reason.

And now, the Lady Cavaliers hopes to put that to good use.

Lehman cruised to another D-III sectional title Thursday at Dayton Christian, blanking Greeneview 5-0.

Now, the Lady Cavaliers will take a 12-4-1 record into Saturday’s 7 p.m. district final at Bellbrook High School against West Liberty-Salem.

The Lady Tigers, the second seed, knocked off third-seeded Lehman during the season.

“It should be a great game,” Lehman Catholic coach Jeremy Lorenzo said. “We are ready.”

And he says that with confidence.

“Sure, there were a few bumps along the road,” Lorenzo said. “We lost four games. But, we played the toughest schedule in the Miami Valley if not the state (for small schools).”

And they wasted no time showing the results against eighth-seeded Greeneview Thursday.

Just 2:13 into the game, Lindsey Magoteaux took a cross from Ava Behr and stunned Greeneview by firing it into the net from the right corner of the top of the box.

“Lindsey (Magoteaux) was on a mission tonight,” Lorenzo said. “She came out and played a great game. Really, all the girls did. We wanted to come out and score quick, because Greeneview is a really good team.”

The scoring didn’t stop there.

With 31:52 remaining in the first half, Grace Monnin followed a deflected shot by Behr and found the back of the net and with 22:04 to go, Grace Olding drilled a shot in from just beyond the top of the box.

“We really came out and played well,” Lorenzo said. “That is one of the things we wanted to do.”

Magoteaux closed the first half scoring with goal off a Riley McIver assist to make it 4-0 at the break.

“That is the tough thing about being up 4-0 at the break,” Lorenzo said. “The thing we heard is that Greeneview never quits. We knew they were going to keep playing hard in the second half.”

But, Lehman never gave the Rams the opportunity to get back in the game.

Olding scored the final goal of the game with 29:07 remaining off a Magoteaux assists.

And the Lehman defense thwarted any Greeneview attempts at outscoring.

The Lady Cavaliers outshot the Rams 18-3, with Hannah Giguerre recording two saves, before Heidi Toner finished off the shutout in goal.

“We came out and lived in their end for the first 10 minutes of the second half,” Lorenzo said. “That is what we wanted to see.”

Now comes the big rematch with WLS, a 6-0 winner over Brookville Thursday night.

“We are playing our best soccer of the year right now,” Lorenzo said.

And the Lady Cavaliers are ready.
