BOTKINS — The Miami East boys soccer team advanced to the D-III sectional finals in thrilling fashion, defeating Botkins 3-2 in overtime.

Miami East advances to play the Greeneview-Bethel winner at 7 p.m. Monday at Greenville.

Miami East’s Logan McEldowney scored the game-winner on a hard kick from the left side that went into back right side of the net with 14:13 left.

Neither team scored early, but the last 15 minutes of the first half were full of action.

Jakob Brunke scored a goal with 14:02 left to put the Vikings up 1-0, but Botkins’ Cody Meyer made a penalty kick less than three minutes later to tie it. Wesley Sutherly scored a goal on an assist from Conner Wilson with 4:37 left to put Miami East up 2-1 heading into halftime.

Botkins scored with 4:13 left in regulation on a kick from Cody Meyer. Meyer sent a pass to Zane Paul, who tried to head it into the goal. Paul missed making contact with the ball, but it fell to the ground and slowly rolled by Miami East’s goalie to tie it 2-2 and set up McEldowney’s game-winning goal in overtime.

CENTERVILLE — The Piqua boys soccer team lost to Centerville 8-0 in D-I sectional action Thursday.

The Indians finished the season with a 3-12-1 record.

Lehman boys

WEST LIBERTY — The Lehman Catholic boys soccer team gave West Liberty-Salem all they wanted before losing 1-0 Thursday in D-III sectional action.

Lehman came in as the 18th seed, while WLS was seeded third.

WLS’ Chris Stokes scored in the first half on an assist from Ian Wolfe for the game’s only goal.

WAYNESVILLE — The Newton boys soccer team lost 5-0 to Waynesville in D-III sectional action Thursday night.

The Indians close the season with a 9-7-2 record.

Lady Tigers

cruise to win

BROOKVILLE — The top seeded Versailles volleyball team cruised to a 25-7, 25-4, 25-7 win over Meadowdale in Brookville D-III sectional action.

Versailles will play Northridge at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
