Local athletes honored; Wounded Warriors Walk at Echo Hills; Covington girls basketball holding Alumni game

The Lehman Catholic girls tennis team had a number of award winners announced recently including:

Ohio Tennis Coaches Association Gold Racket Award

( 2 years varsity letter, senior, 3.75 GPA or higher)

Sarah Gibson, Claire Larger, Ann Pannapara, Keira Burns, Shannon Staley and Brieanna Werling.

Silver Racket Award

(Junior, 2 years varsity letter, 3.75 GPA or higher)

Angela Brunner.

MVTCA Honorable Mention All-Area

Sarah Gibson, Claire Larger and Angela Brunner.

Academic All-Area

Senior, 2 years varsity, 3.5 GPA or higher)

Sarah Gibson, Claire Larger, Ann Pannapara, Shannon Staley, Brieanna Werling and Keira Burns.

Lehman Catholic ended the season ranked 11th in the area in Division II.

Piqua’s Kelsey Bachman was named to the first team on the All-GWOC American girls golf team.

Adde Honeycutt was named to the second team and Skylar Sloan received special mention honors.

All-NWCC

Lehman Catholic had five players named to the All-NWCC volleyball team.

Named to the first team were Olivia Lucia and Alexis Snipes.

Named to the second team was Lauren McFarland.

Receiving honorable mention honors were Reese Geise and Abby Schutt.

All-CCC

Four local players were named to the All-CCC volleyball team first team.

They were Lilli Hamilton, Covington; and Lydia Conley, Gabrielle Hawkins and Sophie Jacomet, Miami East.

Named to the second team were Makenna Gostomsky, Covington; Nichole Hood, Miami East; and Alyssa Rapp, Newton.

Named honorable mention were Macie Reck, Bradford; Ellery Reck, Covington; Ashlyn Monnin, Miami East; and Madison Hildebrand, Newton.

All-CCC

Seven local players were named to the first team of the All-CCC girls soccer team.

They included Emily Adkins, Cerstin Gross, Whitney Gross and Savannah Nehring, Miami East; and Crystal Houk, Michaela Kirk and Kim Laughman, Newton.

Named special mention were Kelly Buck, Miami East; and Marissa Deeter, Newton.

Wounded Warriors

Walk at Echo Hills

This is the 100th Anniversary of Veteran’s Day and to celebrate and honor our veterans a 5K Walk/Run is being offered on Nov. 10th at 9 a.m. at Echo Hills Golf Course.

The cost is $25 and includes a t-shirt. All money will be donated to Wounded Warrior. Over the last seven years, this event has donated $14,000 to Wounded Warrior.

They cannot do this without the support of the local American Legion and VFW.

You may preregister at Echo Hills Golf Course.

Family, friends, veterans come join us for this great event. Coffee, water, fruit available to all participants.

Alumni game

The Covington girls basketball team will again be holding an Alumni Basketball game to help kick off the season.

This year’s game will be played Nov. 23 and will again precede the home opener with Houston.

The Alumni game will tip-off at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Covington-Houston JV game at 6 p.m. and varsity game at 7:30 p.m.

The format of the game will be Odd (Graduation) Years vs. Even Years, with 15 minute running clock halves and a 15 minute halftime.

The $25 registration fee includes a t-shirt and tickets for three guests.

Checks should be made payable to Covington Athletic Department. Registration deadline is Nov. 9.
