Tournament action about to heat up

This week will be a busy week, with tournament action beginning in baseball, softball and tennis — along with league meets in track and field.

BASEBALL

Division III baseball gets underway at 5 p.m. Monday, with Houston traveling to Preble Shawnee.

Division IV also gets underway Monday at 5 p.m.

Games include Covington at Jackson Center and Bradford at Mississinawa Valley.

On Tuesday, Piqua will host Carroll in Division II action at 5 p.m.

In D-III action on Wednesday at 5 p.m., Miami East will play at Dayton Christian, while Versailles will entertain Dixie.

In D-IV action at 5 p.m., Newton will host the Southeastern-Catholic Central winner, Russia will host the Riverside-Fairlawn winner and Lehman Catholic will host the Covington-Jackson Center winner.

SOFTBALL

D-I softball action gets underway Monday at 5 p.m., with Piqua playing at Northmont.

In D-III action at 5 p.m., Versailles will play at Arcanum.

On Tuesday, D-IV games at 5 p.m. include Triad at Lehman Catholic and Jackson Center at Houston.

On Wednesday, D-III softball action includes Miami East playing the West Liberty-Salem winner at 5 p.m.

If it is WLS, the game will be at WLS. If it is Urbana, the game will be at Miami East.

On Thursday at 5 p.m., four teams that took byes will get into action.

Newton will host the Houston-Jackson Center winner, Russia will host the Ansonia-Mississinawa Valley winner, Bradford will host the Southeastern-Catholic Central winner and Covington will host the Fort Loramie-Twin Valley South winner.

TENNIS

The Division I and II sectional tournaments will be held this week at Troy High School and Troy City Park.

Division I will play preliminary matches Tuesday, then play Wednesday, with the semifinals and finals on Saturday.

The top four finishers in singles and doubles advance to district.

Division II will play preliminary matches Monday night, then play Tuesday, with the semifinals and finals on Saturday.

The top four finishers in singles and doubles advance to district.

In singles, Lehman Catholic’s Griffin West is the second seed and Ryan Goettemoeller is the fourth seed.

In doubles, Lehman Catholic’s’s Sam Ritze and Danny Lins are the third seed.

TRACK

All the league track meets are being held this week.

The GWOC meet is Wednesday at Troy, with the All-Star meet set for Friday.

The NWCC meet will be held at Waynesfield-Goshen on Thursday and Saturday.

The CCC meet will be held on Thursday and Saturday at Twin Valley South.

The SCAL meet will be held Wednesday and Friday at Houston.

The MAC meet will be held Tuesday and Friday at Versailles.
