SIDNEY — The Lehman Catholic boys soccer team got back on the right side of the scoreboard Tuesday night, winning a WOSL match against. visiting Spencerville, 2-0. The win puts the Cavs at 2-7 overall and 2-2 in the league play.
The Cavs struck early when senior midfielder Connor Thobe put in a rebound with junior Trey Kerrigan credited with the assist. Lehman put another one across when the Cavs’ leading scorer sophomore Jake Emrick hit his fifth goal of the year off of a great cross-pass assist from junior captain John Henry Frantz.
“We needed this one,” said Lehman head coach Tom Wiseman. “We’ve had a tough run against some highly ranked teams, but it seems that the experience certainly helped us tonight. We worked our strategy of playing the corners and keeping possession deep and that neutralized their counter-attack. Spencerville has some quick, athletic forwards and we limited their chances. I’m very proud of our team’s effort tonight.”
The Cavs outshot the Bearcats 21-11, as sophomore Ryan Goettemoeller secured the shutout at keeper.
“We’ve played a brutal schedule the last two weeks, but I think that has helped us prepare for the rest of this season,” senior forward and captain Alex Wiseman said. “We believe that we will finish the regular season strong and be ready to do some damage in the playoffs.”
Lehman will play at Fairlawn Thursday.
