RIO GRANDE — The Edison State men’s and women’s basketball teams will take 2-0 records into Wednesday’s game with Cedarville JVs.
The Edison men improved to 2-0 by pulling out an 82-79 victory over Rio Grande JVs Sunday.
Edison had led 47-39 at halftime, but had to rally from a 12-point deficit in the final eight minutes.
Edison forced 11 of the Storms 19 turnovers during that last eight minutes and connected on two clutch free throws with nine seconds remaining to pull off the road win.
Darryl Robinson led the Chargers in the scoring and rebound column with 16 and nine respectively.
Jalen Elliott scored 11 points off the bench and Rodney Richardson added nine.
Dakota Prichard had eight points and three steals, while Zach Ledbetter added eight points and six rebounds.
The Edison women improved to 2-0 with a 65-61 victory over Rio Grande JVs Sunday.
After trailing 17-16 after one quarter, Edison opened a 37-23 halftime lead.
Rio Grande cut the Chargers lead to 47-43 in the third quarter, but Edison held the Redmen off for the win.
Jessie Crowell hit nine of 12 free throws and led Edison with 22 points.
Holly Frey added 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals; while Riley Culver had 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Lauren Monnin filled out state sheet with eight points, five rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and a steal; while Kayla Tullis came off the bench to grab eight rebounds and dished out three assist.
The women’s game will tipoff tonight at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:30 p.m.
