The Piqua American Legion Post 184 baseball team defeated Hillsboro 4-3 to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Post 184 started the scoring in the second.
Joe McGillivary doubled, went to third on Michael Ashcraft’s sacrifice and scored on Will Eversole’s sacrifice fly.
Piqua took a 4-1 lead in the fourth.
Travis Smith started the inning with a double to left-center, Then Ashcraft lined a single to left to score Smith.
Nathan Lefeld singled to right to move Ashcraft over to third.. With runners first and third Logan Harris lined a shot over the rightfielder’s head for a bases-clearing triple to make it 4-1.
“Dakota Iddings was pitching great through the first four innings holding Hillsboro to just one hit,” Piqua Post 184 coach Justin Jennings said. “In the fifth, he sat down the first two batters but started to lose a little control and had three walks and allowed a hit that made it 4-2 before getting out of a bases loaded jam.
In the sixth, Harris came in and pretty much shut Hillsboro down except for one hit in the eighth. They ended up scoring off that hit, but Harris was able to blank them from there for the save.
“Dakota (Iddings) only had 40 pitches after four innings, even after the big inning he ended with 64,” Jennings said. “Dakota pitched pretty good for not pitching much in spring ball. That was his first outing for us and it was very impressive.
“Logan (Harris) came in and pitched great also in relief. Its nice when you have fresh arms. We have played six games so far and have only had two guys pitch twice. Both where in a relief effort. That’s always nice.”
Iddings and Harris combined on a three-hitter, with five strikeouts and eight walks.
