Miami Shores used a fast start Saturday to defeat Echo Hills 14-10 in the annual Echo Hills/Miami Shores Challenge.

In Saturday’s two-man competition at Miami Shores, each group played two nine hole matches and Shores was able to open an 11-1 lead.

In Seniors action, Miami Shores’ Gary Weaver and Tom Stickrod won two points from Brett Baumeister and Mike Emerick; Miami Shores’ Roger Luring and Brent Adkins won two points from Jack Hemm and Mark Johnston; and Miami Shores’ Rick Szabo and Tom Mercer won two points from Doug Harter and Mike Bosse.

In Open competition, Miami Shores’ Ray Stuchell and Justin Weber won two points from Ben Gover and Ryan Pearson; Miami Shores’ Jim Howard and Jason Thompson won 1.5 points from Brian Deal and Jeff Jennings; and Miami Shores’ Alex Garman and Ryan Groff won 1.5 points from Brian Robbins and JayDee Denson.

In Sunday’s singles matches at Echo Hills, Echo Hills won nine of 12 matches — but it wasn’t enough to erase the deficit.

Winning for Echo Hills were Bosse 2-and-1 over Stickrod, Harter 4-and-3 over Mercer; Hemm 2-up over Luring; Johnston 2-and-1 over Adkins; Baumeister 1-up over Szabo; Pearson 3-and-2 over Thompson; Gover 1-up over Garman; Robbins 1-up over Garman; and Denson by injury default over Howard.

Winning for Shores were Weaver 1-up over Emerick; Stuchell 6-and-5 over Jennings; and Weber 1-up over Deal.

wins Piqua Cup

Piqua Country Club held it’s second annual Piqua Cup tournament recently.

The event is a team format similar to the Ryder Cup with day one consisting of nine holes of better ball followed by nine holes of alternate shot. Day two included eighteen holes of singles match play. After day one, the two teams were tied with eight points each, but Team Sherrill won the bulk of Sunday’s singles matches to conclude play with a 19 to 13 point victory over Team Arp.

Team Arp included R. Shoenfelt, D. Schafer, S. Bradley, T. Quellhorst, B. Scott, J. Hemm, T. Buecker, M. Manuel, T. Toth, P. Smith, R. Sever, G. Blankenship, G. Anderson, A. Arp, Ro. Bornhorst, M. Dale and T. Bradley.

Junior Camp

at Echo Hills

Echo Hills Junior Golf Camp will be held on Wednesdays beginning June 7 and run for six weeks.

The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. each week.

Junior golfers from age 9 to 17 are eligible for the camp.

Flyers are available online at the City of Piqua website or at Echo Hills Golf Course.

Forms are to be dropped off at Echo Hills.

Cost for the Junior Camp is $35.
