Smith earns district berth, Tigers advance to state

DAYTON — Piqua’s Travis Smith advanced to the Division I district bowling tournament for the second straight year at Thursday’s sectional tournament at Poelking Woodman Lanes.

Smith rolled games of 226, 196 and 180 for a 602 series.

Piqua finished 13th with a total of 3,654.

Austin Jenkins rolled games of 244, 176 and 149 for a 569 series; while Nicholas Jess rolled games of 215, 136 and 155 for a 506 series.

Ethan Gevedon rolled games of 158, 161 and 149 for a 468 series and Anthony Brandon rolled a 172 game.

D-II District

Tiger boys

advance to state

BEAVERCREEK — The Versailles boys to the Division II state tournament at the district tournament Thursday at Beaver-Vu Bowl.

The boys finished second with a 3,646 total.

Alex Groff had games of 221, 174 and 201 for a 596 series to finish second overall and lead the Tigers.

Jacob Wenig had games of 178, 164 and 170 for a 512 series, while Kyle Cotner had games of 151, 189 and 135 for a 475 series.

Aydan Moran had games of 166 and 182, Brody Hyre rolled a 171 and Luke Shellhaas rolled a 166.

Russia’s Henry Tumbush rolled games of 113, 132 and 145 for a 390 series.

Versailles girls finished sixth with a 3,071 total.

Morgan Heitkamp led the Lady Tigers with games of 154, 176 and 165 for a 495 series.

Brigette Holsapple had games of 143, 136 and 146 for a 425; while Makenzie Berning rolled a pair of 163 games.

Morgan Barlage added games of 152 and 134.


Richters swims

at state meet

CANTON — Miami East’s Meredith Richters swam in the 200 IM prelims at the Division II state swimming meet Thursday at the Canton Natatorium.

Richters finished 22nd in 2:12.47.
