East, Newtonshare first

WEBSTER — The Miami East and Newton boys golf teams shared first with 245 scores at the CCC Preview Friday at Stillwater Valley Golf Course.

In the two-man competition, Scot Kirby and Ryan Haney combined for 77 to lead East.

Kely Karadak and Dylan Martinez carded an 80, while Walker Henley nad Cameron Coombs had 88.

Brock Jamison and Drew Thiesing led Newton with 77.

Chet Jamison and Nate Zielinski had 79 and Wade Ferrell and Milan Bess had 89.

Covington boys had a 271.

Covington scores were Levi Winn and Braden Miller 84, James Grilliot and Hunter Alexander 92 and Andrew Slusher and Ryan Gengler 95.

Russia wins

SCAL Preview

The Russia boys golf team won the SCAL Preview Monday at Shelby Oaks, which was shortened to 13 holes by weather.

Russia finished with a score of 29-over par, while Fort Loramie was second at 37-over par.

Russia was led by Jonah Counts, who was medalist with 3-over par.

Other Russia scores were Gunnar Young, 5-over; Zach Sherman, 9-over; Connor Monnin, 12-over; Jack Dapore, 13-over; and Dylan Cordonnier, 15-over.

Houston finished sixth at 87-over par.

Wildcat scores included Cameron Via, 19-over; Zach Freytag, 20-over; Deion Booher, 22-over; Nick Shoemaker, 26-over; Tristin Stangel, 26-over; and Zach McKee, 28-over.

Russia wins


MINSTER — The Russia boys golf team followed up that win by taking first in the New Brmen Cardinal Invitational Tuesday at Arrowhead Golf Course, edging Versailles by one shot.

Lehman finished seventh and Houston was ninth. Fort Loramie’s Brad Gottemoeller was medalist with 77.

Russia carded a 328.

The Raiders were led by Zach Sherman, Connor Monnin and Jonah Counts, who all shot 80.

Dylan Cordonnier had an 88, Gunnar Young had a 90 and Jack Dapore added a 93.

Versailles shot 329 and was led by Griffin Riegle with a 79.

Other Tiger scores were Nicholas Litten-Stonebraker 83, Jacob Watren 83, Kyle Cotner 84, Michael Hemmelgarn 95 and Isaac Ruhenkamp 96.

Lehman Catholic shot 365.

Cavalier scores included Cole Gilardi 87, Tyler Lachey 91, Adam Vanderhorst 91, Ryan Schmidt 96, Zach Scott 99 and Avery Pickrel 99.

Houston had a 388 total.

Wildcat scores included Nick Shoemaker 93, Deion Booher 93, Zach Freytag 99, Zach McKee 103, Cameron Via 106 and Tristin Stangel 106.


Piqua splits


The Piqua girls golf team split a tri-match with Wayne and Greenville Monday.

Team scores were Greenville 218, Piqua 226, Wayne 243.

Lady Indian scores were Cassidy Kraft 52, Macey Pruitt 57, Kelsey Bachman 58, Korren Evans 59, Sarah Ganger 63, Skylar Sloan 63 and Jasmine Shirley 66.

Piqua will host Beavercreek Thursday.

East girls

GREENVILLE — The Miami East girls golf team opened the season with a 199-267 win over Franklin Monroe at Turtle Creek.

Leading East with 47 each were Kiera Fellers and Megan Pettit. fMegan Thompson added a 52, Maggie Bergman had a 53, Haley Howard carded 54, and Emily Rowley shot a 60. The Vikings are 1-0 on the season.

The Lehman Catholic girls tennis team lost to Miami Valley 5-0 Monday.

In singles, Diana Gibson lost 6-0, 6-0; Sara Gibson lost 6-0, 6-0; and Alex Read lost 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, Emaa Simpson and Melanie Brunner lost 6-0, 6-0; and Allison Briggs and Ann Pennaparra lost 6-0, 6-0.
