Local tournaments kick into full swing

OXFORD — Miami East’s Meredith Richters will be competition in the Division II state swimming meet Thursday at the Canton Natatorium.

Richters has the 24th fastest time in the 200 IM in 2:12.48.

She will swim in the prelims at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The 16 fastest qualifiers will advance to Friday’s finals at 5 p.m.


The Piqua boys bowling team will compete in the D-I sectional tournament at Poelking Woodman Lanes Thursday.

The Versailles boys bowling team and Russia’s Henry Tumbusch will compete in the Division II district tournament at Beaver-Vu Lanes Thursday.

The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the state tournament.

Versailles finished third at the sectionals with a 3,791 total.

Tiger scores included Jacob Wenig 568, Ales Groff 567, Brody Hyre 558 and Kyle Cotner 539.

Ayden Moran and Luke Shellhaas both rolled 196 games.

Tumbusch rolled a 530 series to advance as an individual.

Versailles and Russia bowling teams will compete in the D-II district tournament at Beaver-Vu Lanes Friday.

The top four teams and top four individuals will advance to state.

Versailles won the sectional with a 3,519 score.

Morgan Heitkamp led the Lady Tigers to victory, finishing fifth overall with a 531 series.

Other Versailles scores were Brigette Holsapple 506, Makenzie Berning 485 and Morgan Barlage 483.

Maggie Hedrick had scores of 175 and 181.

Russia finished 10th at sectionals with a 2,955 score.

Lady Raider scores included Destiny Osborne 461, Savannah Albers 438, Rebecca Osborne 416 and Klaryssa O’Reilly 402.

Avery Shefbuch rolled a 108 and Danielle Luthman rolled a 101.


The wrestling sectionals get underway this weekend, with the top four in each weight class advancing on to the district meet.

Piqua will compete in the Centerville D-I, 2 sectional with Bellefontaine, Belmont, Centerville, Edgewood, Fairmont, Middletown, Springboro, Vandalia-Butler, Wayne, West Carrollton and Xenia.

Covington, Lehman Catholic, Miami East and Versailles will all compete in the Lehman Catholic D-III sectional with Arcanum, Bethel, Brookville, Catholic Central, Dixie, Mechanicsburg, Milton-Union, National Trail, Northeastern, Northridge, Northwestern, Riverside, Stivers, Tri-County North, Triad, Troy Christian and West Liberty-Salem.
