Indians soccer does well in pre-season tourney

YELLOW SPRINGS – Piqua High School Varsity Boys soccer team played at the second annual Yellow Springs High School Pre-Season Soccer Tournament this past weekend. Twenty-four teams from across Ohio played in the tournament.

The Indians started out strong Friday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Clark Montessori from Cincinnati. Goals were scored by Jared Brandt, Kaden Jones, and Cade Lyman. Goalkeeper Wesley Ford had the shutout.

In the second game, Piqua was down 2-0 to Valley View starting the second half when storms moved in and the game was called complete.

Saturday morning, Piqua beat Miami Valley 3-2, with goals by Jones, Lyman, and Timothy Fair.

In the afternoon game, Piqua dominated London High School, winning 2-0 with goals by Jones and Lyman. Ford again had the shutout.

Sunday morning knockout semi-finals put Piqua against Fairborn in a hard-fought battle. The Indians won by a score of 1-0 with the lone goal by Robbie Comstock. Ford had the shutout.

In the next round, Piqua faced a tough Waynesville team. The score was tied 1-1 at the half and with less than five minutes left in the game, Waynesville went ahead on a penalty kick, and that would be the final score (2-1). The Piqua goal was by Lyman.

Piqua finished the tournament 4 and 2 and will be back in action next weekend at Urbana.
