To the Editor:
The family of Frank Pitsenbarger thanks the Friends of the Piqua Parks Committee: Ruth A. Koon, President; Edna Stiefel, Vice President; Chuck Peltier, Treasurer; Donald J. Smith, Secretary; Glenn Devers; Commissioner Bill Vogt; Nikki Reese, Development Program Manager for the City of Piqua; Brian Brookhart, Assistant Public Works Director; Anne DeBross-Comer; honorary members for this fundraiser, the Piqua Central High School class of 1962.
This committee prepared an excellent program for the statue dedication ceremony held in honor of Airman First Class William H. Pitsenbarger on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, at the Pitsenbarger Sports Complex in Piqua, Ohio.
It was a pleasure to hear remarks from Glenn Devers, Master of Ceremonies, Bill Vogt, Vice Mayor of Piqua, Taesha Carter, student at Upper Valley Career Center, and Isabella Reyes of Piqua Central Intermediate School, who presented their patriotism essays. A special thank you to the 88th Air Base Wing Commander, Col. John Devillier as he delivered his speech on “The Courage, Valor and Sacrifice of William H. Pitsenbarger.” It reminded us again that day of all of Bill’s heroic acts.
We commend all those who made financial contributions toward the new statue sculpted by Mike Major. Your generosity and commitment to this statue honoring Bill is heartwarming and greatly appreciated. I’m sure Frank and Irene, Bill’s parents, would be delighted to have the statue of their only son visible in a promintent place at the Pitsenbarger Sports Complex in our hometown of Piqua. The statue symbolizes his legacy “giving his life, so others may live.”
