To the Editor:
It seems as if just yesterday that I was writing an article about the Fort Piqua Plaza Fifth Anniversary Gala that took place in 2013, which turned out to be a huge success. So, here we are five years later and preparing for the 10th Anniversary Gala Celebration on Nov. 16, in the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza.
Entertainment will again be provided by the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Conductor and Artistic Director Neal Gittleman.
The Fort Piqua Plaza continues to be one of the most recognized landmarks in Piqua and stands as a memorial to the dedication of the community to preserve this historic structure for benefit of future generations. Those who visit the facility for the first time are not only amazed at the grandeur, but also how the citizens of Piqua came together to make this facility a reality.
The Fort Piqua Plaza Banquet Facility continues to rise in popularity for community meetings, executive conferences, business retreats, and especially weddings. Almost every weekend throughout the year, a wedding is taking place and weddings are scheduled more than a year in advance in order to obtain a reservation for the facility.
Being a historic structure means that it is older and needs continual maintenance and tender loving care. One of the main purposes for the anniversary gala, besides celebrating the importance and accomplishments related to the Plaza, is to help with maintenance needs including unanticipated or emergency repairs. All the funds raised through the event will be held by the Piqua Community Foundation and dispersed based on the guidelines established for the fund.
The Friends of the Piqua Library will be hosting and planning the Gala for this 10th anniversary celebration. For the past six years, the Friends of the Piqua Library has presented a Holiday Cabaret at the Fort Piqua Plaza. This year, in lieu of the Holiday Cabaret, the Friends will host the Gala for this special occasion. Look for the Holiday Cabaret to return in 2019.
I hope that you will join me in supporting the 10th Anniversary Gala for the Fort Piqua Plaza on Nov. 16.
