Former PCS teacher: YES on school levy

To the Editor:

Dear Piqua residents,

As a former teacher in the Piqua City Schools, as well as the mother of three children educated by the Piqua schools, I am writing to you to urge you to get to the polls and vote to renew the operating levy for our schools on Nov. 7. This levy will NOT increase taxes. It is a ZERO percent increase operating levy that is needed to maintain the level of funding to our district so that teachers will have what they need to educate students. This levy will allow our school district to maintain the high level of education to our children and continue its day-to-day operations as we have become used to in our district.

Being in the classroom for 20 years, I can assure you there is literally no waste going on in our schools. All staff members work together to get the highest use of resources available to them. Our district continually operates in the black. In fact, last year marked the 10th straight year of doing so! This levy will generate funds to support the daily operating costs that our district incurs such as transportation, utilities, technology, classroom supplies, student programs and opportunities, as well as keeping highly qualified teachers.

As a real estate agent, I can tell you that one of the first thing home buyers look at when deciding whether or not to move to a community is its schools. In Piqua, we are fortunate to have state-of-the-art schools with the highest level of technology and qualified professionals educating our children. This levy is about protecting the quality of education and the fiscal health of our district.

Thank you in advance for voting yes on Nov. 7. We love the community we live in and we are proud of our schools. We appreciate your support!

We are Piqua!
