To the Editor:
I am writing in support of the Piqua City Schools operating renewal tax levy. This is a renewal that was originally approved in 2003. I supported the campaign then and I still feel it is just as important now. Passage of this operating levy is needed to maintain current school funding. The money generated from the operating levy is used for day-to-day operating costs such as teachers, classroom supplies, technology, transportation, utilities, and student programs.
I graduated from Piqua Central High School and both our daughters graduated from Piqua High School. Even though I no longer have children in the Piqua school system, I feel the success of the school system is vital to our town. Schools play an important role in our town’s future along with our students’ future. Our schools provide a foundation for the students so they may go on and further their education, secure jobs, and become successful in life.
Piqua City Schools have been good stewards of the tax dollars. The district continues to be fiscally conservative and is always looking for ways to save taxpayers’ dollars. All the funds raised from this levy stay in our community. These funds have a direct impact on the children of Piqua.
Piqua City Schools hope to continue the current funding to support student programs and opportunities, but they need your help. Please join me in voting “YES” for the renewal of the Piqua City Schools operating levy on Nov. 7.
