Rock Piqua! needs changes

To the Editor:

(Rock Piqua!) — wrong night and location? Thursday or Friday (preferably) would be better suited for the performances. Most area towns have had great success on those nights. But this can cause competition if Troy, Sidney, Versailles, others [are] having events. Piqua parks had good programs and excellent variety several years ago all season long at Fountain Park. These were on Thursday night. And there were great car shows and motorcycle events. Now we only have two old town bands with very small crowds of 100-200 or so.

The river bank location is dirty, has odors and smells, is dangerous with U.S. 36 traffic, has poor viewing and seating, and parking problems. Some bands the past two years were noise and too loud. Classic country was the best. The park is clean, fresh, covered stage, and (rain or shine) seating for 1,200-plus, all good for the crowds, performers, safety and family attendance.

Featuring new rock-country groups along with other performers similar to the past at the park should help bring out the crowds, but not on Saturday.

Have the fishing derby, boat races, canoe runs and water skis at the river bank, but put the music concerts in the park for all to enjoy and attend. Thank you for considering my opinion.
