Thanks for supporting 5K event

To the Editor:

On behalf of the members and officers of the Piqua Optimist Club, thank you to our wonderful community for its support with our recent 5K!

We greatly appreciate our generous sponsors (State Farm, Piqua Steel & Crane, Miami Valley Steel, Unity Bank, Jamieson & Yannucci and our “long distance” sponsor Wappo Woods for our eighth annual Bob Mikolajewski Memorial 5K Run & Walk, which was held Saturday, July 16, at Piqua High School’s Alexander Stadium.

Thanks to all who came out to support this event, we were able to again raise nearly $2,000 to continue our Optimist service outreach as Piqua’s “Friend of Youth.”

This 5K run was created in 2009 in memory of our member and friend, Bob, to serve as a secondary club fundraiser. The proceeds raised will enable us to continue our mission of providing opportunities for the children of Piqua. This mission is accomplished through our sponsorship of events such as Tri-Star sports competitions, the Youth Appreciation luncheon, the awarding of scholarships to Piqua and Lehman High School seniors, and our support of numerous other youth-oriented community programs and projects.

Thank you again to our community for your commitment to our club and the youth of Piqua. We look forward to your continued support as we all work to support the positive development of Piqua’s young people.
