To the Editor:
On behalf of the Piqua Fourth of July Association, I want to thank the city of Piqua and the many local businesses and organizations (over 150 this year) that have made the Fourth of July Celebration at Fountain Park possible for over 40 years.
The last several years we have also received significant money from the Donnelly Advised Fund of The Piqua Community Foundation. These funds have been crucial is keeping this festival alive.
The Piqua Fourth of July Association is a community based non-profit patriotic organization comprised entirely of volunteers. It is bittersweet that we made the decision that we can no longer continue this festival with few volunteers. Organizing the fireworks, entertainment, facilities, rides, insurance and contacting the many supporting businesses just became too time consuming. However, we believe the festival is in good hands with the city of Piqua and we will do whatever it takes to assist in a smooth transition. We have absolute confidence in city manager Gary Huff and his staff.
When you compare his experience and resources with those of a handful of volunteers there is no question he will be successful.
Finally, if it were not for the attendance and support of the citizens of Piqua there would be no need to have this festival. Over the years it has always been our goal to make this a free festival for our citizens without soliciting or accepting public donations or charging admission fees. We were highly successful in this challenge. We truly hope the citizens appreciate our efforts and ask them to support the local businesses and organizations that have assisted us for many years.
With sincere appreciation for letting us serve you,
Diane Miller, President
Piqua Fourth of July Association
