Thanks for Clean-Up Day support

To the Editor:

On behalf of Mainstreet Piqua, I would like to thank the many individual volunteers and groups who came out this past Saturday to participate in the annual Downtown Piqua Clean-Up Day. Wow! What an amazing show of support!

The day started at 8:30 a.m. with representatives from three troops from the Piqua-Covington Girl Scout Service Unit, numerous volunteers the Piqua Rotary Club and the Knights of Columbus, the Piqua Kiwanis Key Club and Builder’s Club, St. James Church and several individuals and families. Downtown looked amazing when we were done!

Volunteers picked up trash, swept sidewalks, pulled weeds and gathered literally hundreds of cigarette butts from planting areas, sidewalks and grassy areas. They also cleaned up tree and plant debris in the area around the gazebo and in Canal Place. Many hands did indeed make light work!

Thank you also to Mark Reedy-Thrivent Financial for the mini-grant to purchase shovels, gloves and large dust pans to get the job done. Additionally A.M. Leonard provided us with EZ Reachers to pick up trash.

Personally, I would like to thank Jim Hemmert for his outstanding leadership on this project. We thank everyone for their support and look forward to seeing you all again this summer at our downtown events.
