Hurry and reserve your place now for an event coming up this Saturday, April 21. From 6-9 p.m. at the Troy Bowl, the Covington Bucc Boosters will be hosting its annual Couples Bowling fundraiser. The cost of this event is a mere $30 per couple, which includes three games of bowling and shoe rental. The registration cutoff date is Thursday, April 19, so please register today if possible. This event is limited to 45 couples, and there are still a few spots left! The $30 payment, payable to the Bucc Boosters, must be made at the time of registration. To sign up for this fun event, please contact Glen Hollopeter at 216-2255.

All proceeds of the Couples Bowling go back to the youth of the community through the Bucc Boosters. The Boosters support all Covington Buccaneer athletic programs. During the event, there will also be a 50/50 drawing, a live and silent auction, pull tabs, and other prizes. The Troy Bowl has big-screen TVs, pizza, and many other forms of refreshment available. Please plan to jump into this fun event and support our Buccs!

St. Teresa Catholic Church, located at 6920 W. U.S. Route 36, just east of Covington, again has its shelter house available for rent, and is currently taking bookings for this spring, summer, and fall. As we approach graduation season already, many families have found the St. Teresa shelter house as an ideal place for a graduation open house, family reunion or picnic, or any type of gathering during these coming three seasons of the year. The shelter is located on the grounds of St. Teresa Parish, and features a full kitchen with sink, stove, oven, and refrigerator.

The building has full restroom facilities, and there are picnic-style tables with seating for approximately 100 under roof, in case of rain showers or other inclement weather. There are many other tables and chairs available to use as well for additional seating. The shelter house rental also includes a fire pit, corn hole boards, a softball diamond, and volleyball courts for outdoor fun. The rental fee covers the entire day and is very reasonably priced. My wife, Stacey, and I oversee the shelter house rental, so if you would like to rent the St. Teresa shelter for an upcoming event, please call or text us at 418-8884. Several dates have already been booked for spring and summer 2018, so please call soon to reserve the facility for your party or graduation open house!

I mentioned the Covington Alumni Banquet last month in this column. In addition to the upcoming Alumni Banquet, the Covington Alumni Foundation has been very active. Many of the 68 granite pavers are committed and installed in the Alumni Foundation’s Memory Walk at the main entrance of the new K-8 school building. The remaining pavers are being promoted and it is expected that several more will be installed prior to the Alumni Banquet, the weekend of June 2-3. The Memory Walk is turning out just as the planners had hoped it would. There are 54 pavers completed, and some will remain available for future memories. To date, there is a wonderful mix of sports teams, recognition of individual achievements, in memory of, and recognition of individuals on pavers. The committee is seeking additional academic achievements to include with the pavers currently installed.

Please remember that all funds contributed to the Covington Alumni Foundation are tax deductible, and 100 percent of the monies earned are used for the Covington Schools and students’ educational needs. Plans to have a dedication ceremony for the pavers are currently in the works.
