Adopt a duck to drop

PIQUA — The Second Annual Rockin’ River Duck Drop is Saturday, Aug. 20, at 6 p.m. and the great news is that you still have time to adopt your ducks and have a chance to win $1,000!

PSC Crane and Rigging will drop about 2,000 bright yellow rubber ducks into the Miami River just East of Lock 9 Park. The ducks will make their way to the finish line and the first duck to reach the line will win its owner $1,000. The next two ducks, and the last place duck, will also receive merchandise and prizes!

All the proceeds from the duck adoptions will benefit Mainstreet Piqua and support its ongoing efforts of promoting and enhancing downtown Piqua and thereby improving the quality of life of all our citizens.

If you would like a chance to be a winner in the duck drop, stop by the Mainstreet Piqua office at 326 N. Main St., or visit the Mainstreet Piqua website at and adopt your ducks with a credit card. You can also fill out duck adoption forms at the Unity National Bank on Wayne Street or Readmore’s Hallmark, 430 N. Main St.

Newton hosts open house

PLEASANT HILL — Mark your calendars for Monday, Aug. 22, from 5:30-7 p.m., when Newton Local Schools invites students, parents, grandparents, and friends to its annual open house.

This will be a great opportunity to meet the teachers as well as become acquainted with the school’s facilities.

Newton’s first day of school is Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Trans Am cruise-in planned

TIPP CITY — Old Tippecanoe will host the 20th Annual Trans Am Nationals Cruise-In on Saturday, Aug. 27 from 5-9 p.m. Activities will include shopping, a 50/50 raffle, and a DJ providing music at Third and Main streets.

The event will take place in the Old Tippecanoe Historic District in downtown Tipp City, with free admission. Registration for car entries is $10 without t-shirt and $25 with t-shirt while supplies last. Registration is at Monroe Federal Bank, 24 East Main St., from 5-7 p.m. The first 250 entries will receive dash plaques and trophies will be awarded.

The Saturday night cruise-in is the highlight of a three-day Trans-Am Nationals event held each year in Dayton. Along with help from Trans-Am Club of America, Dayton chapter, and The Ohio Firebirds, owners of Firebirds, Formulas, Firehawks, Trans Ams, and GTA’s are

urged to enter, but everyone is invited to view the entries and enjoy the fun.
