Mainstreet events set for Saturday

PIQUA — The first-ever Piqua Glow Run Fun Run is set for 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at 8:30 p.m. at Lock 9 Park. The glow run is being held in conjunction with the Active Piqua Cyclovia.

The event will be held on the river’s edge and there will be hundreds of luminaries set up along the edge of the Piqua PATH. Runners are encouraged to wear neon colors, and bring head lamps, flashlights and other nighttime running accessories. Because this is a fun run, there will not be any timing and is suitable for runners of all fitness levels.

The cost to participate is $10 and each participant will receive a pair of glow sunglasses and a 22-inch glow stick. Registration forms for the Glow Run Fun Run are available for downloading at or by visiting Can’t Stop Running, 321 N. Main St., Piqua.

Proceeds from the run will be donated to Protect Our Water-Ways (POWW) to help with the expenses associated with their annual river clean-up.

Also on Saturday, Mainstreet Piqua’s 11th Annual Moonlight Stride and Ride will be held at Lock 9 Park. This free event gives residents the rare opportunity to ride their bicycles on the Piqua Bike PATH after sunset. Walkers are also invited to participate.

In addition to the light provided by the luminaries along the PATH, all riders will be given glow-in-the-dark necklaces (while supplies last.)

The Moonlight Stride and Ride will set off from Lock 9 Park and head south toward the Piqua Power Plant, then return to Lock 9 Park. The ride is approximately two miles in length.

The Moonlight Stride and Ride is sponsored by Edison Community College.
