PIQUA — Football players, volleyball players, soccer players, tennis players, golfers and more were assembled in the CPA at the Piqua High School in celebration of athletic excellence this Tuesday as the annual sport awards were held.

Each team received awards for MVP, Best Offensive, Best Defensive, Most Improved, and Booster Spirit with factors such as leadership, improvement, and stats being used to ultimately decide who won them. Organized by the Athletic Department, all fall varsity, JV and freshman coaches were involved in the organization of the ceremony. While coaches themselves did not receive awards, they did get appreciation gifts from the players.

Chip Hare, PHS athletic director, said, “Traditionally the school likes to recognize all athletic programs for their hard work on and off the field and court. However, beyond simply recognizing athletic programs, this ceremony is a vessel for the promotion of qualities that make athletes great, such as teamwork, hard work, and sportsmanship.” Hare continued, “The event also gives people an opportunity to see the success our kids have in their particular sport.”

When asked if he had any other comments to make regarding the award, Hare said, “We are very proud of our kids and coaches for the time and energy they put into making Piqua so great. Also we are proud to continue the great tradition of Piqua athletics that has been laid from many generations ago. Past players and coaches have given Piqua a great foundation for success.”
