PIQUA — Boys’ Basketball recently had tryouts for the 2018-2019 season. On Nov. 5, the freshman boys had open gyms and tryouts. On Nov. 2, sophomores, juniors and seniors had open gym and tryouts for the junior varsity and varsity teams.

The varsity basketball coaches for this season are Steven Grasso and Brian Gillespie. The junior varsity coaches are Kyle Ratliff and Sam Green. This year’s freshman coach is Derrick White. The first boys’ basketball game is Nov. 31 against Vandalia-Butler at home. The following day, on Dec. 1, the Indians play against Miamisburg at home as well.

When asking the coaches if they had any ideal players returning this season, the responses consisted of Seniors Qurri Tucker, Micah Karn, Trey Richmond, and Junior Riley Hill. Each team will consist of 12 players. Grasso stated, “There has been a great turn out for the open gyms. There are a lot of people who are interested in playing basketball.”

Grasso mentioned that the boys’ basketball program’s main goal is to either meet or exceed their previous record of 10 wins. Grasso says the boys live by the quote “Earned and Deserved”; every win they get is earned by constant and well-earned hard work.
