PIQUA — Piqua High School introduces the newest addition to the high school staff, Jamy Friend. Jamy teaches Child Development and Nutrition and Wellness at the high school and Intro to Family Consumer Science at Piqua Junior High School.

Though this is Jamy’s first year teaching at a public high school, she has taught for 10 years at Ohio State University Extension in Darke County as well at Head Start in Troy. Friend has always been interested in being in the teaching field as a kid. She originally wanted to be in a different teaching field, but it wasn’t available at the time she attended college, which pushed her toward Family Consumer Sciences.

Friend attended Bowling Green University for four years and plans on going back to Bowling Green University for her Master’s Degree. Friend states her favorite thing about being a teacher is, “watching the students learn about the course being taught and seeing them develop their own personal skills.”

Jamey is married to Zach Friend, who attended PHS a few years ago. They have two little boys, Case who is two and Cash who is one. Friend is very pleased with her career at PHS and PJHS. The quote that carries her through her day is: “The one who works is the one who learns.”
