PIQUA — German exchange student for the year of 2018-19, Paula Untucht, was nominated by teacher Jana Krogman for student of the week, for the week of Oct. 15-19. Untucht is from Frankfurt, Germany and is staying here in Piqua with guest parents Cleadous and Holly Hawk.
Krogman said she nominated Untucht because, “It can’t be easy to come to a new country, take courses in a foreign country and language, but she’s doing it and is doing great. She’s a great addition to our class.”
Untucht talked about all of the differences between the schools’ systems, towns, and people that make up our city compared to hers, and while living in a new place has proven difficult, she loves being here. Her favorite part about Piqua is the school spirit.
Having been here since August, Untucht has become a part of Art Club and FCCLA and is planning to do track in the near future. Her greatest achievement is doing this exchange program, and she said she is enjoying getting to know a different part of the world. She is happy she’s gaining the experience.
In 10 years, Untucht sees herself with not only a job and kids, but she wants to continue to travel around the world. In her free time, she enjoys going to her guest sister’s volleyball games and drawing.
Untucht is here with a program called ASSE International, and not only speaks German, but is fluent in English and nearly fluent in Spanish.
