PIQUA — Buckeye Insurance Group is pleased to announce the appointment of John M. Brooks as president and chief executive officer effective March 22, 2017. John assumed responsibilities upon appointment and succeeds R. Douglas Haines, who resigned earlier this year after 45 years of service to Buckeye.

Brooks graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Dayton in 1992. He expanded his expertise through coursework with the Insurance Institute of America earning the Associate in Claims, Associate in Management, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), and the Associate in Reinsurance designations. Brooks served the Ohio Association of Mutual Insurance Companies as president in 2012 and as director since 2009.

Brooks joined Buckeye Insurance Group in 2001 as assistant vice president of Claims. Two years later, he was promoted to senior vice president of Insurance Operations. From 2008 to 2016, he served as chief operating officer. During that time, he rebalanced the insurance portfolio to enhance the risk position, incorporated analytics into rating structures, improved auto loss ratios, and integrated IT into Operations to improve the customer experience. Brooks was named interim president and chief executive officer in January 2017.

The board appreciates Brooks’ contributions during his tenure with Buckeye and is excited to work with him in his new role. We have confidence he will capitalize on his leadership skills, operational expertise and relationships with our staff and independent agents to implement the strategic vision. We look forward to collaborating with him.
