TROY — Allen Financial Group and Harris Jeweler in Troy recently partnered to hold an evening of “Giving & Getting” event at Harris Jeweler on Thursday night where more than 60 guests were in attendance. A portion of jewelry sales will benefit The Future Begins Today, a local non-profit organization that serves Troy’s students with academic, mentoring and scholarship support.
A total of $4,832.17 was raised for The Future Begins Today during the event.
“This first-time event was a way to celebrate our most loyal clients (Harris’ and Allen Financial Group’s), while giving back to our community. The Future Begins Today helps more than a thousand Troy students each year, and we want to support their academic pursuits and career planning,” said Bonnie Harris Frey, president and owner of Harris Jeweler.
Guests sipped fine wine, sampled Winans chocolates and enjoyed more than 1,500 rare LeVian jewels that were on display for the occasion.
Nicholas Burk, sophomore at Bowling Green State University, helped with the evening’s festivities. Burk has been a long-time student of The Future Begins Today and has received a Last Dollar Grant from the organization for two years. A prerequisite of the grant is to give back to the community that has made the grant possible by serving community service hours in Troy.
Burk said, “I wanted to be here because I know many of the guests have made it possible for me to be able to go to school. My family and I have been grateful to Future for encouraging my grades and believing in me. Grades were a struggle for me at first, but now I am earning a 4.0 grade point average this semester.”
To sweeten the pot for guests, they were entered into a drawing for a $2,000 Harris Jeweler gift card sponsored by Harris and Zachary Allen, financial adviser and owner of Allen Financial Group in Troy. The winner was Betsy O’Neal of Piqua, owner of Arabella Salon & Spa.
