Voting topic of event

MIAMI COUNTY — Just in time for the March elections, Riverside Developmental Disabilities will host an information session on the topic of voting on Thursday, February 25 at Riverside, 1625 Troy Sidney Road, Troy. The first session will be held from 1-2 p.m., and the second session from 6-7 p.m.

Information will be aimed at any adult who has not voted before, or who has voted absentee and not used a voting machine. Information about the voting rights of people with disabilities will also be shared. A voting machine will be on-site for individuals who wish to practice using the latest technology utilized in Miami County.

The information session is free and open to the public.

Y offers Friday night youth event

PIQUA — The Miami County YMCA Youth Center will be holding a Friday Night Fest at the Piqua branch Youth Center on Friday, Fe. 26.

This event will take place from 5-10 p.m. for youth in grades 5-12. Pizza, hot dogs and other snacks will be provided to all during the activities. Gym games, Youth Center activities including Wii, billiards, ping pong, board games and various other activities will take place.

Door prizes and a raffles will also be part of the event.

Rain barrels, trees focus of program

TROY — The community is invited to a “Rain Barrels and Trees” program from 6:20-8 p.m. April 21 at the Lost Creek Reserve & Knoop Agricultural Center, 2385 State Route 41, Troy,

Take a tree hike on the property to learn about the various species and how they suit different soils/landscapes. After the hike, participants will put together rain barrels. The class fee is $45 (includes rain barrel to take home). Class is limited to 25 participants.

NASA program to be offered

TROY — WACO Learning Center will offer a new aeronautical program to families with early learners designed by NASA. Fun with Flight is a collection of six STEM learning modules based on children’s books.

Each module focuses on a single children’s book, followed by a STEM thematic lesson. Hands-on activities will engage the child as they make discoveries about Gliders in Nature (Form & Function), Balloons (Sinking & Floating), Parachutes (Fluid Thickness & Drag), Kites (Surface Area & Lift), Helicopters and Airplanes (Force & Thrust), and World Flyers (Geography & Global Trade).

These six lessons will take place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on March 8, 10, 15, 17, 21, and 24. A $35 materials fee will cover all six modules. Children ages 4-6 can register by calling Nancy Royer at (937) 335-9226 at WACO Air Museum for registration. Class size is limited.
