Take a trip around the world

PIQUA — The Friends of the Piqua Public Library are excited to present their 2016 Library Lounge Series, “Around the World.” The first stop on the journey will be “An Evening in Italy” on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. in the lobby of the library. Join us for an evening of images and stories about this beautiful country, along with a sampling of its music, food, and wine.

Jerry McGlothern, a frequent visitor to Italy, will inform and entertain with stories of his travels. He’s well known for his beautiful photographs and his love of the people and culture of “The Boot.” Throughout the evening the audience will enjoy Italian wine and snacks, and will be serenaded with traditional Italian songs by local vocalist Pat Jacomet.

The exciting evening is free, but admission is by ticket only, and only for those over 21. Free tickets can be picked up at the front desk of the library. Seating is limited, and our last event was a “sell out,” so get your tickets early.

Canned good drive set

PIQUA — Those attending the Piqua-Greenville games on Friday, Feb. 5, are invited to bring canned goods which will be donated to the Bethany Center in Piqua and FISH in Greenville. “The school with the highest number of donated canned food items will receive the ‘Battered Can Award’ between the first and second quarter of the varsity game that night,” said Ashley Ho, PHS Key Club President. “This is the first time this award will be given and we will continue this tradition next year at home games between Piqua and Greenville.

“We are excited to be donating food items to our local food pantries especially since the holidays are over and the need is still very high.”

PHS Key Club Adviser Kim Bean said boxes will be provided at the high school to collect the canned goods for both schools and game patrons are welcome to donate more than one item.

The freshmen boys will play at 4:30. Junior varsity boys play at 6 p.m. and the varsity game follows at 7:30 p.m.
