Valentine’s at Hayner

TROY — The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center will host the 2016 Valentine Dinner and a Show at Hayner featuring “Comedy in Motion” with Bob Cates on Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13. Seating begins at 6 p.m.

You and your special someone can share an elegant dinner at the Hayner mansion. After a formal toast to love, we will move to the ballroom for the spectacular antics of Cates, a Canadian juggling champion and physical variety artist who has been delighting audiences for 20 years. He will keep you laughing with comedy routines involving advanced juggling, wild unicycling and balancing skills.

Cost for the event is $35 per person. You may mail a reservation form with a check or make online reservations with a credit card at

Marlins hold fundraisers

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County YMCA (MCY) Marlins Swim Team is partnering with La Fiesta, 836 W. Main St., Troy, to raise money for the team. Between 5-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 20 percent of sales will go toward supporting the Marlins. Those wishing to participate should bring a flyer with them.

The Marlins also will host a swim-a-thon on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at the Miami County YMCA Robinson Branch from 5:15-8:45 p.m. Those who want to sponsor a swimmer can make a donation by contacting the swimmer they wish to sponsor directly or contact head coach Pam Fulton at to make a formal request.

Donations may be a lump sum or per lap completed by the swimmer. Sponsors are asked to complete their donation no later than Jan. 26 for lump sums and by Feb. 2 for per-lap-completed donations.

These events lead up to the MCY Marlin Madness Invitational Swim Meet on Feb. 5-6 at the Robinson Branch. The meet is the last home meet of the season for the Marlins.
