Rummage sale planned

PIQUA — A rummage sale will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Piqua branch of the YMCA’s Senior Center. New and nearly new items will be offered for sale.

Presidents’ Day closings

PIQUA — Piqua City offices will be closed on Monday, Feb. 19, to allow city employees to observe Presidents’ Day.

Garbage, refuse, and recycling collections will not be made on Monday, Feb. 19. Monday through Friday collections will be one day late with pick-up on Saturday, Feb. 24 for Friday’s route.

The City urges all customers to place their containers at their usual collection points the evening before for early pick-ups the following day.

History contest judges sought

COLUMBUS — The Ohio History Connection invites community members to take part in this year’s Ohio History Day program. Volunteer to judge upcoming regional and state contests and support history in Ohio.

An affiliate of National History Day, this state program promotes history education in schools and gives students in grades 4–12 the chance to become historians.

Participants will spend a Saturday in February, March or April learning from, and being inspired by, passionate and knowledgeable students. At these competitions, students present historical papers, performances, documentaries and exhibits on a specific theme. This year’s theme is “Conflict and Compromise in History.”

The Region 7 contest will be held on Saturday, March 10 at Piqua Junior High School.

Fort Rowdy accepting art entries

COVINGTON — The Fort Rowdy Gathering is now accepting entries for its 26th Annual Art Contest. The winning entry will be used to represent the 2018 Fort Rowdy Gathering on its printed material. The deadline for entries is March 30. The winner will receive recognition for the artwork and a limited edition medallion, and will be made into a wood-burned plaque for the Fort Rowdy auction. The rules are simple:

1. There is no cost to enter; just mail your entry flat or rolled (do not fold) to: The Fort Rowdy Gathering — Artwork, P.O. Box 23, Covington, Ohio, 45318.

2. The artwork must be period-correct, representative of the late 1700s and early 1800s (pre-Civil War)

3. The drawing must be on white stock paper, in a black medium, so artwork is crisp and easily reproduced.

4. Drawing size a minimum of 5-by-7-inches

5. All artwork submitted becomes the property of the Fort Rowdy Gathering.

Library Friends to meet

BRADFORD — The New Friends of Bradford Public Library will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22. Anyone interested in working with the library on several events throughout the year should come on this date.

If you would like to join the New Friends of Bradford Public Library, pick up an application at the library or call Carolyn Smith at 526-2285. The New Friends group meets on the last Thursday of every month.
