Chambers to host breakfast update

PIQUA — The Miami County Chambers of Commerce (Covington, Piqua, Tipp City and Troy) are hosting the annual State of the State meeting, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 30.

The breakfast event will be held at the Fort Piqua Plaza beginning at 7:30 a.m.

State Senator Bill Beagle and State Representative Stephen Huffman will present an update and discussion on important legislative issues in Ohio.

The continental breakfast meeting is open to all interested in finding out what is happening in Ohio. Registration is open to chamber members for $15 and future members for $20. Photo contest underway at BNC

TROY — Get your cameras ready for Brukner Nature Center’s Ninth annual Photo Contest, “It’s About Wildlife,” coming to the Heidelberg Auditorium this winter.

Whether your photos are from your backyard or North American travels, show how they support BNC’s slogan — “It’s about Wildlife!”

Visit the center’s website or stop by the main building to pick up a brochure with full contest details. This event is open to all photographers of all ages. Entries are now being accepted through Dec. 11. All photographs displayed will be for sale, but may not be picked up until March 15. A 25 percent commission on sales will benefit BNC’s mission to promote wildlife conservation through environmental education.

YMCA presents SNL event

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County YMCA Robinson Branch is offering a Saturday Night Live Event on Saturday, Dec. 2, for youth in kindergarten through sixth grade. This will be a fun-filled night with swimming, gym games, a bounce house, and a movie. Pizza and lemonade will be served during the movie time. Drop off begins at 7 p.m. and pick-up is at 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $10 for members and $16 for non-members.

YWCA to hold photography class

PIQUA — Join instructor Brad Reed from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at the YWCA Piqua to learn how to take photos with your iPad, smartphone or tablet.

Reed will also help you learn how to share photos with friends and family via social media and print, with tips on editing software.

Bring your tablet, smartphone or iPad to class. Basic knowledge of your device is required to get the most out of this class.

YWCA membership is not required. Class size is limited, so sign up early.

Library Friends offer scholarship

PIQUA — The Friends of the Piqua Public Library is accepting applications for a $1,500 scholarship to residents of Piqua to further their post-high school education in any accredited college, trade, vocational, nursing school or health facility. Also, a scholarship of $500 will be provided to a runner-up.

The Friends of the Piqua Public Library is a non-profit organization created to support the library through advocacy, fund-raising, and sponsorship of programs. By offering a scholarship to a student with a love of books, the Friends of the Library will be perpetuating its mission. Applicants will be asked to write an essay on “The Book I Will Never Forget.”

Applications may be obtained from counselors at Piqua High School, Lehman Catholic High School, the Upper Valley Career Center, and Edison after Nov. 15. Applications will also be available at the Piqua Public Library and must be returned no later than March 20, 2018. The winning recipient will be notified by May 1.
