Y offers SNL youth event

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County YMCA Piqua Branch is offering a Saturday Night Live event on Saturday, Nov. 11, for youth in grades K-6. This will be a fun-filled night with swimming, gym games, and more. Pizza and lemonade will be served at the Youth Center. Drop-off begins at 7 p.m. and pick-up is at 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Kayaking class planned

PIQUA — The Piqua Branch of the Miami County YMCA will offer a kayaking class on Saturday, Nov. 11, from noon to 3 p.m. for beginning kayakers who want to learn the basics of the sport.

The fee is $15 for YMCA members and $20 for non-members. Class size is limited to six participants, and you must be at least 14 to participate.

The class will be taught by Jeff Lange, a local kayaking enthusiast who is also a certified kayak instructor with the American Canoe Association.

Kayaking is a very popular and fun water sport that individuals can easily learn and do. There are many opportunities for renting a kayak around the Dayton area, as well as many waterways to go kayaking on.

FFA Member of the Month named

CASSTOWN — The November 2017 Miami East-MVCTC FFA Member of the Month is Maci Krites. She is the daughter of Suzie and Brian Weber and Eric and Jenell Krites. She is a junior and third year member of the Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter.

Krites recently competed for a National FFA Proficiency Award at the National FFA Convention in the area of Agricultural Mechanics Design and Fabrication. She placed in the Top 4 in the nation based on her Supervised Agricultural Experience program, Maci’s Weld Art. She designs and welds a variety of products for customers and markets them through social media and at the local farm markets. Additionally, Krites is the co-chair of her Program of Activities committee that organized an FFA chapter-wide tailgate party prior to a home football game.

Every month of the school year the Miami East-MVCTC FFA will select a student to be the FFA Member of the Month. The officer team will nominate one student that has been actively involved in the FFA chapter, school and community activities. If selected, the member will be recognized at the monthly FFA meeting, have their picture displayed in the Miami East Ag Room, and will receive a special accolade in celebration of their accomplishment.
