Y offers SNL youth event

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County YMCA Piqua Branch is offering a Saturday Night Live event on Saturday, Nov. 11 for youth in kindergarten through sixth grade. This will be a fun filled night with swimming, gym games, and the Youth Center. Pizza and lemonade will be served at the Youth Center. Drop off begins at 7 p.m. and pick up is at 11:30 p.m. Saturday. FFA Member of the Month named

CASSTOWN — The November 2017 Miami East-MVCTC FFA Member of the Month is Maci Krites. She is the daughter of Suzie and Brian Weber and Eric and Jenell Krites. She is a junior and third year member of the Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter.

Krites recently competed for a National FFA Proficiency Award at the National FFA Convention in the area of Agricultural Mechanics Design and Fabrication. She placed in the Top 4 in the nation based on her Supervised Agricultural Experience program, Maci’s Weld Art. She designs and welds a variety of products for customers and markets them through social media and at the local farm markets. Additionally, Krites is the co-chair of her Program of Activities committee that organized an FFA chapter-wide tailgate party prior to a home football game.

Every month of the school year the Miami East-MVCTC FFA will select a student to be the FFA Member of the Month. The officer team will nominate one student that has been actively involved in the FFA chapter, school and community activities. If selected, the member will be recognized at the monthly FFA meeting, have their picture displayed in the Miami East Ag Room, and will receive a special accolade in celebration of their accomplishment.

ME schools to offer annual dinner

CASSTOWN — Miami East Local Schools will hold its 30th annual Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner on Monday, Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m. at the Miami East High School cafeteria. Participants are asked to park in the back of the building and enter through the back door. To be eligible to attend, you must be 60 years of age or older and live in the Miami East School District.

For reservations, call 335-7070, Ext. 3001, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. The deadline for reservations is Dec. 1.

ServSafe training offered

PIQUA — Upper Valley Career Center will offer the food safety program ServSafe® developed by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. This program certifies staff and provides an overview of basic sanitation procedures from receiving food at the loading dock to serving customers.

The ServSafe® Manager course meets Ohio Level 2 certification requirements and covers the critical principles of food protection management includes classroom training and certification exam. This class is designed for food service managers, directors, chefs, kitchen managers, dieticians, head cooks, line cooks and dietary managers and will be taught by Upper Valley Career Center Culinary Instructor Marie Shaneyfelt. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certification accredited by the American National Standards Institute Conference for Food Protection.

This course will be held over four sessions at the Upper Valley Career Center, Main Building Culinary Lab at 8811 Career Drive in Piqua on Nov. 7, 9, 14 and 16 from 4-8 p.m. The cost of the course is $175 per person and includes all training material, exam and certification card.
