Level II safety training offered

TROY — The Ohio State University Extension, Miami County, has partnered with TAP (Training Achievement Program) Series to offer an online version of the Level 2 Food Safety training, which meets all Ohio Department of Health requirements.

Participants can complete the online course at your their speed and at a time that works for them. Once training is completed, participants will take a proctored certification exam in Troy.

A registration fee of $150 is non-refundable for both the online class and exam. There is an additional fee of $25 if the selected exam date is rescheduled. The ServSafe Manager exam is proctored by an OSU Extension Educator who is a Certified ServSafe Proctor.

The exam date is 9-11 a.m. Oct. 3, if registered by Sept. 12. The exam takes in the Miami County Courthouse, OSU Extension Office meeting room at 201 W. Main St.

Awareness week recognized

TROY — Programs have been scheduled to recognize Heroin & Opioid Awareness Week from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 18-20 at the Troy-Miami County Public Library, 419 W. Main St., Troy.

On Monday, Sept. 18, will be prevention and education night with a community panel of law enforcement, EMA and public health personnel.

On Tuesday, Sept. 19, will be friends and family night. The evening will include Narcan training and distribution and a Families of Addicts meeting with a guest speaker.

On Wednesday, Sept. 20, will be recovery treatment services night. A panel discussion with recovery treatment agencies and local community partnerships will be offered.

“Hidden in Plain Sight,” an interactive display will be available throughout each evening.

The event also being sponsored by the Miami County Recovery Council, Miami County Public Health and the Tri-County Board of Recovery and Mental Health Services.

Y offers youth sports leagues

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County YMCA is taking registrations for upcoming sports leagues at the Piqua and Robinson branches. These leagues begin on the weekend of October 20th at the Piqua and Robinson Branches and run for eight weeks.

• Piqua branchleagues

Kindergarten boys/girls basketball — Friday evenings

4-5 year-old boys/girls basketball — Saturday mornings

7-10 year-old boys/girls indoor soccer — Saturday afternoons

• Robinson branch leagues

First and second grade boys/girls basketball — Friday evenings

Third and fourth grade boys/girls basketball — Saturday mornings

3-4 and 5-6 year old soccer — Saturday mornings/afternoons

Second to fifth grade floor hockey – Saturday afternoons (Begins Nov. 4)
