City offices closed on Labor Day

PIQUA — Piqua city offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4, for Labor Day. Garbage, refuse, and recycling collections will not be made that day.

Monday through Friday collections will be one day late, with pickup on Saturday, Sept. 9, for Friday’s collection.

Customers are asked to place their containers at their usual collection points the evening before for early pickups the next day.

Piqua Baptist to offer kids’ Bible program

PIQUA — Piqua Baptist Church, 1402 W. High St., soon will be starting their Awana Club, a Bible-based program for children that will include games, Bible memory and awards. Open to children from age 3 to sixth grade, the program will be held each Wednesday evening from 6:10-8:10 p.m. beginning Sept. 6, and running through May 2, 2018.

Weekly meetings have three components: council time, handbook time, and game time. Council time includes flag ceremonies, music, announcements and a Bible lesson. Handbook time emphasizes individual contact between club members and leaders. Leaders meet with a small group of club members to listen to them recite their memory work and to encourage them to greater participation and handbook achievements. Club members earn handbook awards during this part of the meeting. Game time teaches fair play and teamwork, while providing a release for stored-up energy.
