Y offers Presidents’ Day camp

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County YMCA will be heading to Jumpys in Troy this Presidents’ Day. This event will take place on Feb. 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with pickup and drop off at both the Piqua and Robinson branches for youth in grades kindergarten through sixth grade.

The day will start at Jumpys (transportation provided), lunch (bring a packed lunch), and then swimming at the Robinson branch.

Pre-Registration by Feb. 19th is encouraged at either branch or over the phone at 773-9622 or 440-9622. The cost of this event is $20 for YMCA members and $26 for non-members.

Athletes to be honored

PLEASANT HILL — The Newton Athletic Department, in collaboration with Newton Local Schools and the Newton Athletics Hall of Fame Committee, will honor former athletes with a Newton Athletics Hall of Fame.

Nomination ballots are being accepted prior to March 1, 2017. If you wish to nominate an athlete, coach, staff member, and/or team the nomination ballots are available in the Newton High School office, on the Newton Local Schools’ website,, and on the Newton Athletics’ website, The link on the athletic site is down the left hand side of the page under Resources and is named Hall of Fame Nomination Form. Please mail completed nomination forms to Gavin Spitler — Athletic Director, Newton High School, 201 N. Long St. Pleasant Hill, OH 45359. There will be a maximum of eight candidates inducted the first year, six the second year, and four for each subsequent year. Selections will be finalized and announced at the Newton Alumni Banquet on the second Saturday in May.

The inaugural induction ceremony will take place during the winter sports season of the 2017-18 school year.

Sign-ups upcoming for winter programs

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County YMCA will be taking registrations for Winter II Session classes beginning Monday, Feb. 20 for members and Thursday, Feb. 23 for nonmembers. Classes will begin Feb. 27, and last for seven weeks. This session includes many recreation and fitness options such as swim lessons, group exercise, gymnastics, youth sports and more.

The Y will be taking online registrations at its website To do so, a participant must first register his or her email at the main desk. They can then go online, log in and register for their chosen classes. Registrations will also still be accepted at the desks and over the phone.
