Veterans Day ceremony scheduled

TROY — A Veterans Day ceremony and program has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Veterans Memorial, Riverside Cemetery. The ceremony and program are sponsored by the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard, Troy.

The inclement weather location is the VFW Post, 2220 LeFevre Road, Troy.

Brownie overnight set

TROY — Friday, November 11th, 7pm to 9am Saturday, November 12. Come join Brukner Nature Center staff for a fun and educational overnight adventure for your troop from 7 p.m. Nov. 11 through 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.

Participants will learn the unique adaptations of Ohio’s wildlife as they encounter BNC’s wildlife ambassadors. This program is $25 per scout and $20 pr leader, and is filled with nature games and lessons, as well as a late night snack, night hike, cool craft and continental breakfast.

Camp out in the comfort of the Heidelberg Auditorium and create lasting memories during this overnight adventure. Deadline for registration and payment is 5:00pm on Monday, Nov. 7. Pre-register and pay by Monday, Oc. 31 and get a wildlife field guide for your troop.

History center momentos for sale

PLEASANT HIll — The Pleasant Hill History Center continues to have items for sale that could make Christmas gifts, such as the Pleasant Hill History Book, DVDs of the sesquicentennial event and Pleasant Hill businesses from the past, note cards, postcards, pictures, maps, mugs, magnets, T-shirts and glasses.

Cats Meow items include the monument, water tower, school and school bus.

The Pleasant Hill History Center, at 8 E. Monument St, Pleasant Hill, is now open every Monday from 3-7 p.m. The center will be open through the month of November and then will close until March 1, 2017. It is necessary to close for the winter months due to the high cost of heating the building.

The History Center will host the Visit from Santa, which is sponsored by the Newton Township Trustees, and a date will be announced soon.

Railroad club plans event

VANDALIA — The Crossroads Railroad Club in Vandalia will be conducting an open house from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 12 and noon to 5 p.m. Nov. 13 at 304 N. Dixie, Vandalia.

Note that viewing the display requires going down a flight of stairs.

Guests will see both HO and N scale layouts in operation. Both layouts include scenery ranging from mountains to industrial scenes, rock climbing and a baseball game.

Club members will be on hand to explain how the trains operate, and to show how anyone can enjoy model railroading even if you cannot have a layout at home. The Crossroads Club is always seeking new members, and meets every Tuesday evening to operate the layouts.
